Web Abandonment
Web Abandonment: (web aban•don•ment) n
1. Having a website created by a friend, family member, one person design firm, or a cousin of a cousin and they cannot be reached to update your site. 2. Not updating your website in years because the person who created it does not return phone calls or is no longer in business.
What happens to your website when the person you hired to design and maintain it disappears? This situation happens for a number of reasons, but the problem remains -- you can''t make changes to your site.
If you're lucky, you will have a few pieces of information:
1. Login information for your hosting administration panel.
2. FTP login information.
3. Email address information, if applicable. (you@yoursite.com)
4. A copy of your website including all the coded pages and images.
If you are like many and don't have this information after your web developer leaves -- there's still hope! Contact your domain name registrar and your hosting company to get that information. To find the contact information for your registrar and hosting company, just enter the word "whois" into any search engine. This will provide you with another search to find the registrar and host for your site.
You might have to prove that you are the actual owner of the domain and hosting account. Usually you will just need to provide basic identification to the company if you do not have the login or account information.
If you've found yourself in this situation, don't worry. Contact Us today to find out how we can help get your website back on track.
